Society : New Charm in Town

THERE IS A NEW CHARM IN TOWN Or is it really new? . Well, I saw a man who was selling it today in Owerri. Chai... The man had a recorded advert blasting through the loud-speaker on his rickety Keke-Napep. . I had to join some folks who had gathered around him to get details of his charms. Nna meehhnn,,, I didn't only catch fear... Fear catch me too. . The highlight was one charm he was displaying to the ladies there. According to him, If they insert some fluid of the charm into their EHEM hours or minutes before they meet any guy or man, That Very Man Would Never Find Another Woman's EHEM as sweet as he would find theirs'. And that the man would always BEG FOR MORE. He assured the ladies there that It Has No Side-Effects. . Chai... At this point, I wished I could arrest him, but erm erm,, who wan arrest man wey dey sell charms.. Who knows another charm wey him get against attack? Abeg ooO... hehe... . Come to think of it, Could this not be the charms

Society : Money Or Personality?

Image
Last year, my roommates and I were going through a wedding magazine, the magazine had pictures of very expensive wedding ceremonies by top men... When we stumbled on this pic, Oh! We laughed and all wondered what would make a very beautiful woman like this end up with this " -----" man... Of course! We gave ourselves an answer.. An answer you know already... If we need to tell ourselves the truth, Whenever we see a picture of a beautiful woman and an unattractive man, we always conclude the woman is getting married to the man because of his money, № one thinks LOVE... And yes it might be true.. The same reason that made a former beauty queen get married to an old unattractive man with № 6packs Money!!! You see, unattractive guys get jealous of handsome guys... The same way unattractive girls get jealous of very beautiful girls.. They often come up with the "character over beauty" lines.. Guys came up with theirs.. " The hand

By Princess Nsikak I was 16years when I met Tamunotonye, he was my dance instructor, who was 25. He was also my dance partner and I started catching feelings for him.                                 He knew this and tried to play on my emotions. I was 16 and thought I was inlove. You will agree with me, that we always thought we had found our prince charming, I thought so too. I sneaked out to take his calls, I sneaked out to his house for the first time, and words got to my mum, and oh! She matched down, right in his house and beat me black and blue. She slapped me, and then pulled me by my ears till we got home and next she told me a long story. I felt bad not because she told me a story, but because she cried as she said the story. I felt bad, I couldn't stand my mum crying. I stayed away from Tamunotonye, and I found out he was one of those guys out to hunt young innocent girls. ====> My Mother Saved Me <==== When I was preparing for my WAEC exams, NECO and J

Relationships : Finding True Love In Marriage

Image
True Love In Marriage When I got home that night my wife served dinner. I held her hand and said, "I've got something to tell you." She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes.                           Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But I had to let her know what I was thinking about divorce. I raised the topic calmly. She didn't seem to be annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, "Why?" I avoided her question. This made her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, "You are not a man!" That night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer; she had lost my heart to Jane. I didn't love her anymore, I just pitied her. With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30%

Society : The 4 Wives

Image
This is something to think about: 4 WIVES Once upon a time there was a rich King who had four wives. He loved the 4th wife the most and adored her with rich robes and treated her to the finest of delicacies. He gave her nothing but the best. He also loved the 3rd wife very much and was always showing her off to neighboring kingdoms. However, he feared that one day she would leave him for another. He also loved his 2nd wife. She was his confidant and was always kind, considerate and patient with him. Whenever the King faced a problem, he could confide in her, and she would help him get through the difficult times. The King's 1st wife was a very loyal partner and had made great contributions in maintaining his wealth and kingdom. However, he did not love the first wife. Although she loved him deeply, he hardly took notice of her! One day, the King fell ill and he knew his time was short. He thought of his luxurious life and wondered, I now have four wives with me, but

Society : Beauty Over Brains

Image
Beauty over brains They say beauty without brain is nothing. When a guy says this, I wave it aside, but when a lady says this, I scream she's tryna console herself.                                 Gone are the days when brain was first prioritized before beauty. Now beauty seems to top the list. Now, I mean right now, once a girl is curvy she feels she's got the world in her hands... I've heard how ladies praise their bodies and how they flaunt it. These ladies will tell you they can get any man with their "body" ... Brain didn't come in, but their body.. We are in that era where body, the curvy body of a female is more respected and cheered than her brain.. You don't believe me??? An intelligent lady writes on science, or maybe politics or life in general, only the people that read the article knows how good it is, she gets few likes and thumbs up.. But when that same lady puts up a pic of her striking the normal girl pose, her legs bow,

DIARY OF A BATTERED WIFE........ Today he hit me again,it wasn't like yesterday or the other days, this time I think I have broken a rib,I am coughing out blood,I can't move a muscle and he is still hitting me,he kicked my belly again, ooooh I think I am dying,I can't breathe, everywhere is dark,it's peaceful,I don't feel anymore pain,it's quiet here...... .                                         Someone is touching me, where am I? Judgement day? Everyone here is wearing white? I see medical equipments,do they use that in heaven? My head hurts like hell,  not that I know what hell feels like though. But where am I?............. I think the man in white is talking to me, why can't I reply? Oh my God!!!!! Am I dumb? Why can't I respond? Why can't I talk? Why can't I move? Am I in a hospital? What happened? I feel sleepy maybe when I wake up,I'll have answers. ..... I feel so tired,I'm in pains, I can't move. How did I get

Society : Question Of The Day

Question Of The Day:- Why Do Most Nigerian Girls Fall Easily For Guys With Cars?  Am not here to bash any girl or anything but with personal experiences here and there, I noticed my assertion above can be nothing far from truth. Some of these girls actually quantify the riches or standard of a guy with the car he drives… Or if he even has one at all. A guy with a car has half of the “toasting” job pretty much done easy for him cos of his car. ONE OF MY MANY EXPERIENCES: I was at a garden around my neighborhood having drinks with friends when i saw this beautiful girl walked in,i called on her in the most respectful way i can but she acted like no one was talking to her,i stood up and walked up to her trying to spark up a convo but again she snubbed me(almost giving me the “talk to the hand” thingy, while looking at me head to toe). I left her site back to a round of mockery and laughter by my tipsy friends.I took the shame thinking “what

By Princess Nsikak ‪#‎coughs‬ BEFORE YOU READ, PLS NOTE THAT YOU ARE ONLY RESPONSIBLE FOR HOW YOU UNDERSTAND THIS. . . . In my year 3 in school. I was in the school hostel. We should have been 16girls in the hostel but it happened that we became 46 in the room. Worse, the fans in the room wasn't functioning. And only one roommate had a standing fan. So at night, I always go to her space to sleep on the floor. . . There was a girl, that used to come to our room then to ask for iron. None of my roommate ever agreed to give her their iron. But I gave her mine. I was nice like that. Or I like to think so  . This went on for 2weeks straight. She would come by 5am to collect the iron and return it in an hour time. I was warned to stop giving her the iron but I didn't listen. . . That fateful day, as usual, the room was hot. I left my bed to my roommate's space. I had 2 phones then. I took it there. This was past 4. I slept, woke up by past 5 and didn't see my

Mama Blessing Agboli FOCUS I have lived in London for the past seventeen years of my life. For the first six years I took cab everywhere, I even contracted a personal cab man. The cab driver I contracted called me one day, after six years of driving me, he said "Mama buy a car and stop using public transport system." I was actually terrified to drive in London because of the speed at which the cars moved. Anyways, I applied for license then got a driving instructor. It was a nightmare, I halted at every horn coming from behind me out of fear. One day my instructor said to me. "Don't bother about people behind you, focus on those in front of you. Follow them carefully and be very watchful." Why am I being so narrative? Don't listen to people who talk behind you and try to pull you down, they are behind you. They see you because you are ahead of them. Have this notion in mind; God has endorsed you! Don't live your life based on people's percept

Society : Think Again

Image
Think Again Several years ago, a preacher from out-of-state accepted a call to a church in town. Some weeks after he arrived, he had an occasion to ride a bus from his home to the downtown area. When he sat down, he discovered that the driver had accidentally given him a quarter too much change. As he considered what to do, he thought to himself, 'You'd better give the quarter back. It would be wrong to keep it.'                             Then he thought, "Oh, forget it, it's only a quarter; who would worry about this little amount? Anyway, the bus company gets too much fare; they will never miss it. Accept it as a 'gift from God' and keep quiet." When his stop came, he paused momentarily at the door, and then he handed the quarter to the driver and said, 'Here, you gave me too much change.' The driver, with a smile, replied, 'Aren't you the new preacher in town?' 'Yes' he replied. 'Well, I have been thinkin

Time : The Most Precious Resource

Image
The passage of time is concept that I’ve spent a great deal of effort trying to wrap my mind around. It is especially problematic because while time itself is a constant, it’s perception in our minds is continuously in flux. It’s worthwhile, if you’re able to, to try and slow time down as much as possible and try to get the most out of each moment. Time itself is far more valuable than money, fame, possessions, etc. – probably the most important real or abstract resource there is. Value itself can be measured in time, even more so than money, for if you can get people to devote time to your cause, this can in many cases demonstrate that they are even more interested in helping you/your cause than those who simply give money. The people who say ‘time is money’ are right to a degree, but I’ll go a step further and say that ‘time is more precious than money.” You can always get more money – but there is no way to gain extra time; only extend the experience and perception of it. Relationships : Sex Is Powerful

Image
If you knew how powerful sex was you wouldn't have it with just anybody. During sex there's two different exchanges that take place: a physical and spiritual. Most grown adults are aware of the physical exchange. But the second is the spiritual which most people don't know about. When you have sex with someone, you exchange/ obtain whatever spirit(s) they have as well. You take on their qualities , behaviors, ideology Etc GOOD OR BAD & become a part of you. Sex was intended for one man and one woman. So many problems come as a result of sex outside of marriage. Disease and unplanned pregnancy are just the scratching the surface. You enter into a covenant with that other persons spirit. This happens every time you have sex with a person. And ... In addition to this ... Whoever they have had sex with ... Now you're attached to those people's spirits as well. This is why there's so many people with multiple personalities, who are dibbling and dabbling in t

Reflections : Crab Mentality

Image
CRAB MENTALITY CRAB mentality, sometimes referred to as crabs in the bucket, is best described by the phrase "if I can't have it, neither can you" The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs. Individually, the crabs could easily escape from the pot, but instead, they grab at each other in a useless "king of the Hill"  competition which prevents any from escaping and ensures their collective demise. The analogy in human behavior is sometimes claimed to be that members of a group will attempt to "pull down" (negate or diminish the importance of)  any member who achieves success beyond the others, out of envy, conspiracy or competitive feelings. But as Christians, there is need to examine the closet of our inner man for similitude of this mentality in various context, e.g, at home, place of residence, place of work/business, as worker or regular church member.  Such sincere internal interrogation will throw up diverse realities. What are those things

Reflections : On My Mind

Image
By Princess Nsikak What's on my mind? I'd tell you. . . It's been 4-5months now since I stopped worrying about people's relationships and marriages. I don't talk about a person's love life. I'm at that point in my life when I don't care anymore. . . So I see this gorgeously dressed female with a black eye and an ugly looking fella. Back then, I'd worry myself about what she's doing with him and probably ask myself what she sees in him, but now? I don't care anymore. . . I don't care why that married virtuous woman is still married to that man even when he brings girls home. I stopped worrying. I stopped talking, writing and thinking about relationships. . . I feel nothing when I read of that dead woman, or that man who was poured acid, or that man that loves his kids so much and chooses to stay with his mad wife or that woman who toils for money to take care of her home. I stopped worrying. My feelings died a long tim

Society : Nigeria's 55 Years Of Nationhood

Image
By Is’haq Modibbo Kawu OUR country marks its 55th independence anniversary today. In a very fundamental sense, Nigeria’s story is also the story of my life, because I was born in the very last month of colonialism in our country, on September 5, 1960. I grew up in those early years of an independent country and found consciousness against the backdrop of the hopes generated by freedom as well as the anxieties that were associated with the problems of underdevelopment and the inability of the post-colonial ruling elite to find the consensus to build the new country, leading almost inevitably, if tragically, to the years of the Nigerian Civil War. I lost cousins in the war and one of those who returned suffered the dire consequences of what we would know many decades later, as Post- Traumatic Stress Syndrome. But when I reflect upon the early years of my life in our newly independent country, the motif was hope. Hope about the possibilities that a free country can give to its peopl

Children's Education : Don't Force It!

Image
Before I gained admission into the University, I used to be a nanny and a teacher. Career mothers and fathers dropped their kids with me. . . Babies as young as 9months I took care of them. The oldest child was 2. Apart from keeping them safe till their parents got back, I also made sure they ate and also learnt their 1,2,3's and A,B,C's. . . One of my fav kids was Amina. She was a very tiny and fragile girl. She was a year old and had the longest hair I'd ever seen. The first day her mother dropped her with me, in her words, 'I want you to teach her how to use her right hand' How? I asked. . . I took Amina in. She was a very smart girl. I noticed she loves painting and she does a fine job by using it on her face and her clothes. All these she does with her left hand. When I hand over her biscuits to her, unconsciously she stretches her left hand to receive it. When she wants to play with colors, she uses her left hand. So I knew she was left handed and i
